POLI 6150: ADA Building Regulations Briefing Book

Diversity and inclusion are the foundations of a successful program, policy, and workforce. As someone who is disabled, I deeply value fostering inclusive acceptance in an ever-changing workforce and citizenry. If public administrators fail to keep up with the dynamics of their work environment, efficiency and successful management will gradually decline. Constituents will begin to lose trust in and respect for those leading. To be efficient and consistent, we must always maintain flexibility, empathy, and an open mind. Understanding the needs and values of diverse communities, as well as the role of government assistance, helps nonprofit workers address the neglected gaps in society. Feeling secure in an environment allows for the exchange of diverse perspectives, ideas, and innovation. To maintain these flourishing conditions, administrators must evolve with their environment.

I engaged directly with this competency during my Federalism and Intergovernmental Relations course. Throughout the semester, we were tasked with developing a briefing book analyzing a specific governmental program and its impact on American society. I chose to focus on the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), specifically in regards to building regulations. My research encompassed every aspect of ADA structural requirements, from theoretical justification to nongovernmental related sectors. I also created an infographic outlining possible solutions to the program's pitfalls; this challenged me to think critically about the challenges of maintaining ADA effectiveness. Without accessible public spaces, disability-related innovation dissipates.

In conclusion, this assignment taught me the importance of program evaluation in regards of keeping up with an ever-changing, diverse environment. If administrators refuse to keep learning, their organization will be negatively impacted.
